Cyber Defense Unit (CDU) Information Systems Operator

The Maryland Defense Force (MDDF) Cyber Security Unit (CYSEC) provides professional, civilian-military expertise in cyber security to the Maryland Military Department (MDARNG, MDANG, MEMA) and state and local agencies as a service and assistance to their own cyber security programs.

The Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) information systems operator (cyber protection) performs specialized computer network defense duties, including infrastructure support, incident response, auditing and managing. The cyber protection NCO also protects against and detects unauthorized activity in the cyberspace domain and uses a variety of tools to analyze and respond to attacks.

The Information Systems Operator's responsibilities include:

  • Uses defensive measures and information collected from a variety of sources to identify, analyze, and report events that occur or might occur within the network in order to protect information, information systems, and networks from threats.
  • Responds to crisis or urgent situations within the network to mitigate immediate and potential cyber threats.
  • Uses mitigation, preparedness, and response and recovery approaches as needed.
  • Conducts assessments of threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Tests, implements and deploys infrastructure hardware, networks and software.
  • Provides cyber security training to the Maryland Military Department, state or local agencies when requested.
  • Provides detailed analysis reports as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years hands-on cyber security experience at a DoD, federal or state agency.
  • DoD 8570 / 8140 Information Assurance Technician certification (CompTIA Security +, CEH, CISSP).
  • An active DoD security Clearance is highly desired.
  • Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills in a professional environment.
