10th Medical Regiment Sergeant Major

The Sergeant Major of the 10th Medical Regiment is responsible for the overall direction, readiness, and operations of the enlisted personnel and NCOs of the 10MEDRGT in order to meet the medical and allied health functions of the Maryland Defense Force. As such, the Sergeant Major, in collaboration with the Commander and staff, plans, establishes, directs and supervises health delivery activities of the enlisted personnel and NCOs within the 10MEDRGT units and, as tasked, in support of the State of Maryland and the Maryland Military Department, including MDARNG, MDANG, MEMA and appropriate state agencies through mission-related tasking.

The SGM staff duties and responsibilities include:

  • Provides timely and accurate advice to the Commander and staff, and initiates recommendations to the Commander and staff in all matters related to enlisted personnel activities and the NCO support channel.
  • Advises the Commander and staff on matters of military courtesies, customs, etiquette, procedures, drilling, and writing.
  • Ensures that training is being carried out to the standards set forth by the Commander.
  • Demonstrates appropriate leadership and leadership development and succession and oversees the training and professional development of the Commander's NCOs.
  • Carries out policies and standards for the drilling, performance, training, appearance, and conduct of enlisted personnel to established readiness standards.
  • Ensures that individual and 10th MEDREG equipment and supplies are maintained to established readiness standards.
  • Enforces the execution of these responsibilities with enlisted personnel and NCOs.
  • Conducts and/or approves annual Enlisted Personnel/NCOER’s for direct reports.
  • Collaborates with appropriate force wide directorates and units to improve physical fitness, health, and nutrition throughout the MDDF.

Qualifications:

  • Computer competency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Fluent in English
  • Excellent speaking and writing skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and personnel to achieve mission objectives
  • Experience in civilian and military writing
  • Must be able to perform duties described above
  • Familiarity with both military and civilian medical interface, particularly in DSCA and disaster operations is desired
  • Must be at least MEMS Senior qualified (may obtain within six months of appointment)
