MDDF Recruits at Towson University Military Appreciation Day

mddfMilAppDay.jpgOn Saturday, November 17, 2018, the Maryland Defense Force (MDDF) Recruiting Team participated in the Towson University Military Appreciation Day at Johnny Unitas Stadium located in Towson, Maryland.  This event provided the MDDF with an opportunity to showcase some of the wonderful service opportunities within its ranks.  It also coincided with the Towson University “Tigers” football team playing the James Madison University “Dukes.”

“This was a great opportunity for us to educate some of the Towson students about the Maryland Defense Force and our important state mission,” commented Maj. (MDDF) Bryan Fischer, who served as the officer in charge for recruiting.  “Towson University students are part of a generation that has grown up surrounded by and immersed in technology that has shaped the times we live in. We want to bring their skill sets into our organization.  Specifically, we are looking to beef up our Cyber Defense Unit with the same kind of technical talent that is found at TU,” he continued.

“Towson University also has a world class band and the MDDF Band is hoping to augment its roster with graduating TU band members that would like to continue to play their instruments while having the opportunity to serve the State of Maryland.  In addition, the MDDF 10th Medical Regiment is looking to bring in medical professionals and the nursing students at TU are top notch,” he shared.

“Towson University and the Maryland Defense Force have a longstanding and positive relationship,” said Brig. Gen. (MDDF) Lorenza Cooper, commanding general of the MDDF.  “We’re looking to fill our ranks with committed citizens who can augment our existing capabilities in service to the State of Maryland.  We appreciate Towson University’s appreciation of military service and we are grateful for the opportunity to attract extraordinary talent,” concluded Brig. Gen. (MDDF) Cooper.

The Maryland Defense Force (MDDF) is the State’s uniformed volunteer militia unit providing competent, supplementary, professional and technical support and soldiers to the Maryland Military Department and the State of Maryland as needed. Established in 1917, the MDDF consists of nearly 200 personnel who perform legal, engineering, finance, medical, chaplain, field support and ceremonial services for the State of Maryland.
