​​​Brigadier General Drew Dougherty

General Dougherty is the  Assistant Adjutant General - Air responsible for ensuring that over 1,300 personnel of the MDANG are organized, trained and equipped to execute federal and state missions. He also is responsible for leading the Air Staff, directing and resourcing this team during all operations and contingencies. Additionally, he is the principle advisor and primary advocate for strategic initiatives.​



General Dougherty was commissioned upon graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1998. He earned his aeronautical rating at Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training in May of 2000. He has held a variety of positions, serving as a Flight Examiner, an Instructor Pilot and as both an Operations Group Commander
and a Fighter Squadron Commander in the Maryland Air National Guard. He has served 10 years on Active Duty and 14 years in the Guard.

In his civilian capacity, General Dougherty is pilot with Southwest Airlines. He has more than 4,900 military flying hours, including over 900 combat hours on 6 contingency deployments in the A-10A and A-10C, supporting Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM, INHERENT RESOLVE and FREEDOM’S SENTINEL.
