Brigadier General Andrew William Collins
Brigadier General Andrew William Collins serves as the Commander of the Maryland Army National Guard. He was commissioned as a distinguished military graduate through the Reserve Officers Training Corps at Carson-Newman College.
His previous company, battalion, and brigade commands include A Company, 1204th Aviation Support Battalion in Easton, MD and the 115th Military Police Battalion. During his command of the 115th Military Police Battalion, he led the unit to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from 2012 to 2013. Additionally, he commanded the 70th Regiment and the 58th Troop Command, Maryland Army National Guard. Previous non-command assignments include service as an Infantry Platoon Leader, HHC Executive Officer, Support Platoon Leader, and Battalion Assistant S3 in the 2-325 Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2003-2004; Senior Platoon Trainer at D Company, 2-11 Infantry Regiment; Battalion S3 at the 115th Military Police Battalion; Deputy Commander, 32nd Civil Support Team; Deputy Inspector General, Maryland National Guard; Training Division Chief, G3, Maryland Army National Guard; Executive Officer, 58th Expeditionary Military Intelligence Brigade; Director of Plans, Operations, and Training (G3); and Chief of Staff, Maryland Army National Guard.
His awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal with 4 OLC, the Army Commendation Medal with 6 OLC, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the OIF and OEF Campaign Medals, the Senior Parachutist Badge, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Ranger Tab.
Brigadier General Collins is a graduate of the US Army War College and holds a Masters of Strategic Studies. He also earned a Masters of Business Administration from Franklin University, and a Bachelor of Arts in English from Carson-Newman College. He is also pending his dissertation defense to earn a PhD in Public Policy / National Security from Liberty University.
