Assistant Division Commander- Support, 29th Infantry Division

Brigadier General Murray joined the 29th Infantry Division and the Maryland Army National Guard in May 2023 as the ADC-S. In this role, he oversees the synchronization of the division's protection, sustainment, and command and control warfighting functions, as well as coordinating rear area operations in support of the division's close and deep operations. General Murray also leads the Maryland Army National Guard's contributions to the division headquarters.
Prior to joining the 29th Infantry Division, Brigadier General Murray served as the Senior Advisor to the Commander of NATO Multinational Corps – Southeast in Sibiu, Romania, and the G5 for the Alabama Army National Guard. In this role General Murray supported the Romanian Land Forces' efforts to accelerate the stand up of the corps headquarters to bolster the Alliance's eastern flank. He also developed relationships and opportunities for Alabama Guardsmen with Romanian units.
General Murray previously served in a variety of command and staff positions in both the Alabama Army National Guard and the Active Army. He commanded the 226th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade in Mobile, Alabama, leading the brigade through two Warfighter exercises and the response to Hurricane Sally in Baldwin County. He also commanded Area Support Group – Black Sea, headquartered at Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base, Romania. General Murray served as the Deputy Commander of the 111th
Ordnance Group (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), Alabama Army National Guard. He commanded 1st Squadron, 131st Cavalry, Alabama Army National Guard, where he developed a Reconnaissance Partnership with the 528th Reconnaissance Battalion in Braila, Romania. As a captain he commanded B Troop, 1st Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment (Light) in Operation Iraqi Freedom, where he partnered with soldiers from both Iraq and Ukraine. As a platoon leader with K Troop, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, he served as a peacekeeper with Stabilization Force 7 in Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he worked with a variety of NATO partners in Multi-National Division–North.
General Murray's awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal with “V" Device, the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the NATO Medal (for service in the Former Yugoslavia), the Presidential Unit Citation (for service with the 2nd Cavalry Regiment in Operation Iraqi Freedom), the Combat Action Badge, and the Parachutist's Badge. He is also a Distinguished Military Graduate from Auburn University's Army Reserve Officer Training Corps.
General Murray is a graduate of the US Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama, including a regional-studies focus on Southeastern Europe. He holds a Master's Degree in Business Administration from the University of Memphis and a Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management from Auburn University. General Murray is also a graduate of the United States Army's Intermediate Level Education, Infantry Captains Career Course, and Armor Officer Basic Course, as well as the Defense Strategy Course, Cavalry Leader Course, Scout Platoon Leader Course, and Airborne School.
In his civilian career, General Murray is a Director of Asset Management for Watco Terminal and Port Services, where he develops operational efficiencies for over 50 ports on the United States inland river system. He is an Accredited Maritime Port Executive and a Certified Maritime Educator. He has worked in the inland river industry since leaving the Active Army in 2006.
